Selecting a Consultant
|
|
|
Consultants can help organizations define or
implement a plan for solving problems. Consultants are most
effectively used when they bring specialized knowledge and skills to an
organization. For projects such as process change and software
implementations consultants also provide the ability to jump start the
project. This takes place in at least a couple of ways: the first
is in the form of project management skills (having done this before)
and the second is having knowledge that will only be used at setup
(knowledge that does not have to be transferred to the implementing
organization).

EMPLOYEE SELF SERVICE: STREAMLINE EMPLOYEE WORKFLOW AND MANAGE BENEFITS USING THE WEB!
|
|
|
Some small companies and many mid-size companies
are adopting ESS solutions in growing numbers. A major reason is that
companies are tending to opt for smaller information technology
projects that are aimed at specific processes and business problems
with clear returns on investment. In particular, HR technology adoption
is increasingly being driven by applications aimed at employees and
line managers. HR/ESS applications were ranked number six on the list
of top-ten spending priorities according to a study by The Gartner
Group in September 2003.

How to Select Business Software Solutions
|
|
| |
The reason we use business software
is to satisfy business needs. Business software is an enabler that
allows us to perform more successfully. This performance may be
manifested in higher levels of customer satisfaction, more efficient
vendor relationships, more effective employees, better decisions made
utilizing focused information or enhanced returns to owners. Over time
the conditions of our markets, technology, the economy, our location
and company will change. It is for these reasons that it is imperative
to periodically review the adequacy of the processes and systems that
support your business/organization.

Project Charter
|
|
| |
In general a project charter provides
clear communication about what owner/management has agreed to spend
time & money on (purpose), what the project will deliver to the
organization, who will work on the project, who has authority to change
the direction of the project and what the intended business results
are. Both owner/management and the project team use the charter as a
mutual agreement that can be referred to as situations arise –
“this is what we asked you to do” and “this is what
we said we would do.” Commitment is enhanced when the charter is
written and signed by the key players.

How to Select a Project Manager
|
|
| |
Any major change or project within an
organization needs to have an internal leader as a focal point to
manage the day-to-day activities. Whether the project is implementing a
new business solution or software, building a facility, installing a
new line of equipment, moving an office, or rolling out a new benefits
plan you need a project manager. A project manager is an internal
resource with time dedicated to scheduling and monitoring progress and
budget. Even if you utilize outside resources, there still needs to be
a coordinator of resources and a “watchdog” on behalf of
the organization.
