As we turn our attention to 2008 it seems we face yet another year of increasing challenges and great opportunity. Speaking of next year, now is the time to prepare for the close of 2007. Refer to the Sage Support Site for key information provided by Sage to smoothly transition to next year. For payroll be sure to look for tax table updates around the middle of December. Aldo Simmons has joined Business Technology Solutions as a Senior IT Consultant. He brings over 10 years experience applying information technology to real life day-to-day operations. His services have provided economical, efficient, and secure ways for multifaceted organizations to accomplish their goals.

Aldo’s background includes configuration and administration of Novell, Windows 2000, Windows Small Business Server 2003 Exchange, Windows XP, Sage MAS 90 ERP, Microsoft Office, and various database management systems, in addition to network infrastructure implementation and management.

Technology Services

In the past we have written about the breadth of our Technology/Network Services offerings (see more details on our Website). We are often looked to by clients for assistance with specific projects such as installations, network upgrades, system reviews and so forth. An area of growing interest is how we help clients with the long-term planning and ongoing support of their networks. 

Our support philosophy is a 180 degree view from what many of our clients have experienced with other providers. Often technology support organizations work on what is generally known as the “break / fix” model. Meaning when something you have breaks someone is sent to fix it and there is a corresponding charge for their effort. The situation is fixed the technical consultant moves on to the next client with a problem.   

In this model the support company makes money when you have a problem and the relationship leaves little room for preventing problems. The technician is focused on troubleshooting and fix. Unfortunately, what is not accounted for is that the true cost of the problem for you is not just the money spent for the fix, but also includes the loss of productive work time, the inability to accept orders, lost visibility to inventory and a number of other possible costly delays to doing business. The question that needs to be focused on is - What is the overall worth to increase network and computing stability?

Our approach is to propose service solutions that focus on network stability through consistent interaction and prevention. We are primarily compensated for reducing and preventing problems not just fixing. We believe that by working together towards the same goal of increasing your uptime and productivity your total cost will be smoothed and ultimately lowered (figure 1).
